Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives have determined that the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Lindenhurst on February 17 was a black 2005 to 2008 Hyundai Sonata. Investigators believe the vehicle may have damage to the passenger side front fender and door and is missing the passenger side mirror.

Attached is a photograph of a similar vehicle.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

North Wellwood Avenue, near Herzel Boulevard, Lindenhurst, NY on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at approximately 6:15 a.m.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Lindenhurst, NY. 

Suffolk County Police received a 911 call at approximately 6:15 a.m. on February 17, reporting a man walking in the lanes of travel on northbound North Wellwood Avenue near Herzel Boulevard. Approximately five minutes later, police received a 911 call from a different caller reporting the man was now lying in the road. An investigation determined the man was struck by a vehicle which fled the scene.  

The man, 27 years old of Brooklyn, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY for treatment of multiple broken bones and a head injury.
