Yaphank / Monday, June 27, 2016 at approximately 3 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Canine Section Officer rescued a 75-year-old man who suffers from dementia and was last seen at his home on Saturday.

Sixth Precinct Officer Keith Boles responded to a residence on Gerard Road in Yaphank after a caregiver notified police that the man he looks after, Robert Barrett, 76, had been missing since Saturday.  Canine Section Officer Robert Fanwick responded with his partner, Sparks, at approximately 3 p.m. Sparks searched the area and was able to locate Barrett in the woods behind his residence. Barrett was found partially clothed, sunburned, covered with ticks and disoriented.

Barrett was transported by Yaphank Fire Department to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
